This is in no particular order (well, alphabetical more or less) just an archive of the things I've written. For my own amusement more than anything else.

So, jumping on the anti-sugar and processed foods bandwagon for a moment here. I realize it is close to sacreligious to give up sugar in the season that brings us Cadbury egss, but I also had two moments last week:

The first, I saw some pictures of myself and realized how "thick" (aka chubby) I've gotten despite trying to eat well and getting a lot of exercise. No one wants to hear another woman whining about her weight, but it definitely did play a part in this decision.

The second was that a colleague (who is also vegetarian) said she had just completed a Whole30 month, and it made her feel great.

I hadn't given a second thought to all the paleo and elimination diets out there, as they require a fair amount of meat-eating and I figured they weren't for me. But I also realized that I put more sugar and flour-based food in my mouth than just about anything else (think-- the old food pyramid we grew up with, the one that has grains on the bottom).

The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to break its hold on me. I looked into the Whole30, and decided that it's too much of an elimination diet for me. Besides, I don't have any chronic inflammatory conditions that may or may not be linked to food. So I did a bit of a mish-mash.

NO: Sugar (including honey, agave, maple, etc), Grains or grain-like seeds, alcohol

MINIMAL: Dairy (i.e. greek yogurt for some more protein), Fish (Eh, I'm not a totally vegetarian compliant), Cocoa powder and unsweetened chocolate

MODERATE: Beans and legumes (these are a no-no in paleo and whole30 circles)

FREE CHOICE: Vegetables (excluding some starchy ones like corn or potato), Fruit (I'm eating more fruit than most of these diets recommend), Eggs, Nuts, Nut-like Seeds

My goals are
1) To see if I can break the hold that sugar and simple carbs have on my eating habits
2) To learn how to cook better and more varied meals that are sugar and grain-free
3) To see what it does for me in terms of attitude, sleep, weight, skin, and body.

This is not going to be a long-term diet. I plan to do it for 1 month. Then I am thinking of adding back in whole grains and small amount of alcohol in month two. Month three I am hoping that I can teach myself to eat sweets only as occasional treats.

We'll see how it goes.

New year!

Finally finishing my first round of New Year House Cleaning.

*phew* that feels better.

Now onto the other stuff.

2014 - Farewell. You weren't a bad year, but not a momentous one either. I may loose track of you in the flow of time. But such is life. I worked a lot, renovated the kitchen. I did other stuff. Hawaii was brilliant. As was England. Love life was not. My roomate moved out, and I'm getting used to living alone. I find I may be a little too much alone. Blessed with family and pets and health and living in a place I really enjoy. Lots to be thankful for, really. But we move on.

2015 - I have high expectations, my friend. We're renovating the back yard next. Gardens! an Orchard! Stone walls! Travel plans to meet vet school friends in Vagas next month. Bonaire in July. Brother's wedding in October. My goals are to put myself out there. To take more emotional risks and meet new people. And just enjoy and continue to be thankful every day.

Happy new year all!

So, I just got back from X-men: DoFP and I loved parts of it. Others left me a little hollow. I suspect this is because I enjoyed XMFC so damn much and thought so much about what happens next -- I was more interested in that than the actual plot. Anyway, more behind the cut.

Spoiler Alert )

In conclusion, I loved it and I kind of wanted to hit it upside the head. Because apparently I still believe that a world of mutants and superheroes should make sense and be logically constructed, goddamnit. I realize this is a personal failing and I should probably overcome it to continue enjoying myself. But such it is. And the Avengers franchise gets it a little bit better than X-men. At least for now.

Does that even make sense?

Crucial movies meme

So, tying out crossposting. Let me know how it goes!

Also, I have spent yesterday night and this morning deleting hacked twitter followings (it's fucking annoying, people. Just one more reason on the long list of reasons to hate Twitter), changing my account logins and passwords to a higher-securty algorhythm of password creation that a person (i.e. me) can remember pretty easily but a computer shouldn't be able to hack. Oh, and logging all password/account info in a handwritten journal in the event I should lose my memory or die or something. Oh, and once I get the new credit cards comes the fun of changing all my automatic bill-paying accounts. woohoo! /sarcasm

In the meantime, a meme!

Everyone should post your most ten CRUCIAL CRUCIAL - ASS movies, like the ten movies that explain everything about yourselves in your current incarnation etc...

Sabrina (the remake)
Thomas Crowne Affair (also remake)
Lion King
Oceans Eleven
Lord of the Rings
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Pride and Prejudince (BBC version)
The Matrix

-- And almost made it:
Meet Joe Black
Star Wars
The Notebook
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Bourne Legacy
The Last Unicorn

Not cool, LJ

So when I moved, I did remember to change my address with the credit card companies, however I did not remember to change it with my LJ recurring payments.

About two hours after the payment didn't go through, they sent me notification they were suspending the account. Two hours in the middle of the night. Not even 24 hours for me to resolve the issue.

I realize it doesn't change much; I don't use many of the paid features anyway. But I'm a little pissed on principle. Anyone know much about coding and setting up an account with Dreamwidth? I already have the account, just haven't done anything with it. (I know I said I wouldn't go over there, but now I'm salty)

He starts treatments earlier EVERY EFFING MORNING. What the hell? Then I look like a jackass for showing up at the right time after shit is done.

I HATE THIS GUY. I do not want to go downstairs. I do want to shower, but he's starting FORTY MINUTES EARLY. Fucking competitive asshole who didn't have to be awake all last night doing treatments.

OMG, two story posts in one night. The world must be coming to an end.

Title: Like a Fiddle

Rating, Warnings, Disclaimer: PG. None. Sadly, none of this is mine
Spoilers: Through Lucifer Rising
Summary: Words and roads. Sometimes things fall apart, sometimes they don’t. Coda to 4x22
Wordcount: 1,200
Author’s Note: For the incomparable [ profile] deirdre_c on the occasion of the anniversary of her birth. You’re an amazing person, Dei, in life and in fandom. Don’t ever change. My only thought writing this was to give you happy, wrestling, post-finale Winchesters. I didn’t quite get there, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.

They were cruising on I-70, somewhere between hell and Pittsburgh, PA, engine of the borrowed car screaming in the afternoon sun )

Title: Spare Parts (the Coincidence Happens Twice Remix)
Author: [ profile] krisomniac
Summary: Serenity is grounded and Kaylee can’t figure why.
Rating: PG
Fandom: Supernatural/Firefly
Spoilers and/or Warnings: none
Title, Author and URL of original story: Spare Parts by [ profile] theladyscribe
Wordcount: ~2500
A/N: Many thanks to my betas and handholders, [ profile] ignipies and [ profile] deirdre_c Thanks you and such creative source material to work with, this is probably the first story I've finished in more than a year.

Hey, kid, the woman says. She’s weathered like the landscape, wearing simple flannel over a shirt that used to be white. She has kind eyes and hands that can balance six glasses of whiskey across a barfight, over fallen drunks, without ever spilling a drop. )
krisomniac: (spn - castielharp)
First, a rec.

I spent the early morning reading [ profile] dotfic's The Syntax of Things, which I totally missed back in June, and its sequel A Better Fate than Wisdom. It picks up where season four left off and takes it to completely right places. It's Castiel/Dean, and makes it work with Jimmy, with dreams, with the distrust and complete openness that exists between them. At the same time, she manages to do more than justice to relationship between Sam and Dean at the core of everything.

Next, I started watching Dogma this evening. Good lord, I love that movie, and I would be such a happy fangirl if someone could find a way to crossover the two.

Third. I think I have mild acid reflux. This is new and unpleasant and might explain (along with the crazy schedule) why I've been losing weight recently? Not a lot, but disproportionate to the volume I've been eating.
krisomniac: (spn - deanapproves)
I realize I'm about the last person to mention that [ profile] remixredux09 has gone live.

I loved my story. Many thanks to whomever wrote it! It was a mix of one of the first SPN stories I ever wrote and so much fun to revisit. It got me thinking, in fact, that I should've been gutsier with mine. I think I was afraid to really take possession of someone else's work, so mine was more of a continuation of the author's story and less a remix-y remix. I think I might try again next year and really take the thing by the balls, so to speak. ;)

So go check it out: After All (Dying Whispers Desperate Murmurs Remix), (original here) it's dark and tragic and everything a remix should be.

In other news, I discharged most of my patients yesterday, so today was blissfully quiet enough to watch a movie. I just happened to be up to that moment in P.S. I Love You when JDM is introduced and despite my (unpopular fandom oppinion coming) not finding him particularly attractive in Supernatural, he gets my blood boiling with that sexy-horrible-fake Irish accent and guitar in this one.

I've been mainlining fic all day and LOVING IT. Congrats to everyone who finished the remix!

Upside of down

krisomniac: (horse race)
OMG, two more days of night treatments and on-call. Over the last almost-two weeks I've seen:

- Four colicking horses, none of which had surgery as an option, one of which survived. (Those were long, depressing nights, for the most part. I encourage all horse-owners out there to buy insurance for colic surgery! It's not that expensive, compared to the procedure, and you never know when you're going to need it.)
- Two lacerations: one ripped-open shoulder, one torn-off nostril
- One horse that got caught in a cattle guard
- One street nail (horse steps on nail, nail drives bacteria to very sensitive structures inside the foot, horse requires immediate surgery)
- One case of enteroliths (cantaloupe-sized stones in the gut)
- One neck surgery, doing well.
- Other various and sundry

Went to the CA Rodeo going on nearby. It was an experience. Sadly, I got called out in the middle of it, didn't have my car, had to borrow a huge truck, usually driven by a very tall man, with a driver's seat that wouldn't move forward, got lost twice on the way back to the clinic, arrived several minutes *after* the emergency, and decided I'm never leaving the premises while on-call again.

Rope burned most of my first two fingers while helping to recover a horse from surgery. Must wear gloves next time.

I like being on hospital duty-- except for the all-night treatments and the fact I can't go running. But you take the good with the sleepless, yeah? Oh, I also miss wine.

ummm, hello?

Just testing. I can see my journal and my flist, but I cannot follow links to anyone's entries or comment on them. Is this happening to anyone else?

ETA: seemed to have worked itself out after a couple hours. *happysigh*
krisomniac: (spn metallcar b&w)
I just uploaded my current ballad of Sam and Dean to Sendspace and decided I'd share it on here for everyone else.

The Trapeze Swinger by Iron and Wine (from the In Good Company soundtrack. It's LONG- about 9 minutes.)

Please remember me, happily )

In music-related news, does anyone know of a program I can use to update my iPods (I have a 1st gen classic and a 2nd gen nano) that is NOT iTunes-- which messes up my entire file structure and tries to take over my computer so I've finally eradicated completely and refuse to re-install.

Or does Apple not allow such a thing?
krisomniac: (spn - castiel eyes)
I'm sure about about everyone has noticed this already, but Kripke SO planned this whole Dean/Castiel wing (HA) of fandom back in S1 when

Dean's first on-screen sex/canon relationship is with "Cassie": Coincidence? I don't think so.

The story begins with me noticing larger, puffier bags under my eyes these last few month/weeks and deciding to try to reduce them. This decision coincided with my trip to NYC last weekend, where there just happened to be an Origins shop near my parents' house. And our opening act concludes with the purchase of Origins 'eye doctor' cream (but not the Undereye Serum which was even MORE expensive-- and which the nice lady at the counter gave me a free sample of anyway).

And this is the conversation I recently had with myself regarding the merits of said cream after one day's use. )

Tell me I'm not the only one who thinks about these things. I think I'm going to go to bed now.
krisomniac: (spn sampuppy)
Jkidding. I am not so much with the love of driving. However, after moving roomate into her new apt in NJ, our final destination is NYC and that makes me happy.

What's not on: snagging the bathroom to pee when you KNOW I have a mouth full of toothbrush. Last morning. It's the last morning of housemate-dom, and though I'll miss her, this is not entirely a bad thing. (Am I the only one who thinks it's VILE to spit in the kitchen sink?)

Was thinking a bit about the end of S4 with just a few bullet points )
