Good LORD, that's a fun show!

I had watched the first few episodes when they aired in Sydney, and a few more earlier this season, but I finally got down to watching the whole first season and Good LORD that's a fun show. Totally my kind of entertainment.

Although my roomate and I are probably not the ones you want to watch it with.

For instance, we gripe about the times that House puts his stethescope in backwards. They call the FLUID-filled bladder on ultrasound an ovarian tumor (solid mass. They look DIFFERENT, people!) One week they listed Toxoplasma as a virus. Another week they had a five minute discussion about its being a fungus. It's a friggin protazoan parasite! Look it up sometime, Dr. Foreman. Not only that, but not *every* medicine will kill the patient if it's the wrong one. ELISA is pronounced "eliza" by everyone in the community who isn't Dr. Foreman (with his "elissa test"). Erm, I think that's all I can remember right now.

But as I suspend disbelief, and if I don't look too closely at the procedures, I just can't get enough of Dr. House.

As usual, I don't have a huge ammount of respect for the women on the show -- with Dr. Cuddy being the glaring exception. She is SO COOL. She knows what's right and does her best to keep House in line. She's in control and manages to wear low-cut blouses at the same time. The team is fine, but it's House and his interactions with his colleagues - Dr. Cuddy and Dr. Wilson that really suck my soul in.

Dr. Wilson: where to begin? The man cannot give bad news without a little smile. It's totally inappropriate and something I do as well. And the best part is: people THANK him for informing them that they are dying. He and House are so slashable - *they* even joke about it nonstop - and yet I have no need to slash them. The friendship is perfect as it is, with two completely screwed-up guys who just *get* each other and are devoted to their jobs. This is the kind of friendship I understand. It's the kind that doesn't bear heart-to-heart communication. The kind that can handle disappointment. People say that House is closed off and afraid to open himself up to anyone, but they're wrong. He and Wilson are laid out completely bare. Neither really has anyone else. AND THEY DON'T HAVE TO TALK ABOUT IT.

Guh. I shall stop now. And go to class.

(Anyone want to direct me to some good House MD icons??)
