I don't think I've ever read any of your writing before, and I'm impressed. I do have a soft spot for Neville, and I like the treatment you've given him here. He feels very in keeping with canon--not secretly brave or supersmart or anything, just Neville--but not so flat as, sadly, many of JKR's characters come out in her writing. I think Remus is probably the perfect person for him to unburden himself to--I doubt if anyone else would understand Neville quite so well.

And I love, love, love the little throwaway line about Trevor. Makes perfect sense.
