Birthday recs and thank you!

Mmmm... chocolate mousse in the tummy. It was a fantabulous day, made all the better by all of you. So, I have a little list of thanks and things that you should all see because I have the most creative and talented f-list around.

Stories

Birthday by thistlerose, Time Traveler's Wife fic. This is one of the greatest books I've ever read, and I'd write fanfiction for it if I thought I could ever do it justice. thistlerose does. Not only is this perfectly in keeping with the characters and moods of the novel, it's a tender and bittersweet look at a moment in Alba's life at sixteen.

I'm a few yards away when my dad looks up. His face is wet from the drizzle, and smudged with dirt. His green eyes go wide and he slides off the swing so quickly that he stumbles.

The Only People For Me Are The Mad Ones, Supernatural fic by ignipes. Guh. I don't even know where to start. It's set after Sam and Dean have destroyed The Demon. It's a story about brothers who can still surprise each other, about paying last respects and finding a place in the world. It's also about sunflowers that may or may not eat you, sucker punches and dirty laundry, smoke and explosions, all-night vigils and drunken sailors. Even if you don't watch Supernatural, this story's for you.

He thinks about the way Jessica used to look when she knew he was lying about his family, about the phone calls he never made and the letters he never wrote. He thinks about never feeling safe unless Dean's at his back, about never knowing which way to go unless there's an open road before him, about smoke and rain and too-loud music and bitter coffee and new wounds and old scars.
