baby goats!

I was going to start a new journal for stories and pictures from work, but I got lazy, so here we are.

These guys (Boer goats) were born on Saturday by C-section. Their mother was euthanized last night, after a long struggle. They've been raised by vet students and techs, drink commercial goats milk from baby bottles every few hours and are the cutest animals you've ever seen.

In other news, I got kicked by a horse I was walking today. Now tell me, who on earth gets cowkicked by a HIND hoof MID-BACK while walking at the animal's SHOULDER? Seriously. The odd thing is that when I move, it doesn't hurt at the kick site, but about eight inches lower on my back. I'm thinking maybe it tweaked a nerve or spasmed a muscle and hopefully will fade in a few days.

Not a bad day, though, because: did you SEE those kid goats?

[identity profile] scowling-hermit.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG! CUTEST THINGS EVER!

I would love to have some goats, but everyone tells me they're such a pain in the ass.
They sure are cute, though...and seem quite intelligent. :)

[identity profile] scowling-hermit.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and sorry about your horse-kick! I hope it gets better soon.
I was never kicked by a horse, but I fell off my pony right onto my head once when I was little. Luckily I had my hard-hat on!

[identity profile] krisomniac.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
awww. yeah. It's sad, the thing i regret most is that i don't have a big, purple bruise to show for it... ;) Although she nailed me hard enough to knock out the wind.

[identity profile] krisomniac.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
they are. You should try. Just don't get a male because they block really easily.

[identity profile] krisomniac.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I KNOW.

[identity profile] drvsilla.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
So cute. :D Then they grow up. Stare you down. And try to chomp on your fingers or any clothing that hangs loose. Still! So cute.

Eep for the kick. : / To answer your question, I don't think I know of anyone else who gets kicked there while standing at horsey's shoulder. You must be special. :D

[identity profile] krisomniac.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
heh. yeah. I usually try to walk these animals from the shoulder because I figure it's a safe spot-- where I can neither get kicked nor struck nor bitten. (We have all kinds of hot off the track thoroughbreds and stallions around, although this one is an Irish warmblood mare.)

This high-forward cow-kick? This was a new approach to me. I blame it on the altheticism of the horse.

[identity profile] drvsilla.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhhh. Stallions and such. (tho a warmblood mare? hmm. maybe she was essited by the proximity of said stallions.) When I deal with, arhm, high-spirited horses, I walk with my armpit over their hip, hand flat on the croup. Worst I've ever had there is stepped on, because that doesn't even leave room for an angry lil side kick.

I'm still baffled by the cow-kick. That nailed you while walking alongside. I bet that horse is doing pilates when no one's looking.

[identity profile] krisomniac.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. i don't think I could get my armpit anywhere near as high as the hips of most of these horses (and i'm 5'7") :D

I think she is one talented girl.

[identity profile] drvsilla.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. Well. It's a more-or-less idea. *g*

Agreed.

[identity profile] deirdre-c.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
She should audition for The Rockettes.

[identity profile] krisomniac.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The Evil Rockettes! :)

[identity profile] drvsilla.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Do not encourage the high-kicking horsey. :/

[identity profile] riibu.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, so cute! And so small.

[identity profile] krisomniac.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
They're the best!

[identity profile] moonlightstorm.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG THOSE KIDS ARE SO ADORABLE. I want to pick one up. XDDD They look so tiny!

[identity profile] krisomniac.livejournal.com 2007-01-04 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't you?! I swear, no one in the hospital can keep their hands off those kids.

[identity profile] thistlerose.livejournal.com 2007-01-05 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, how cute! Poor little orphans. ♥
